At the close on the National Stock Exchange, the Nifty 50 lost 0.32%. The BSE Sensex 30 declined 0.36% by the market close.

Among Nifty 50 constituents, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) was the session's top gainer, advancing 2.18% - a rise of 22.45 points - to finish at 1,051.95. Tata Steel Ltd (NSE:TISC) also outperformed, adding 1.36% or 2.50 points to close at 186.00. Axis Bank Ltd (NSE:AXBK) rose 1.36%, gaining 16.60 points to reach 1,234.00 in late trade.

On the downside, Infosys Ltd (NSE:INFY) led the laggards, sliding 2.83% or 33.10 points to end at 1,136.10. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NSE:SUN) dropped 2.54%, down 49.00 points to close at 1,881.00, while HCL Technologies Ltd (NSE:HCLT) fell 2.32%, losing 31.60 points to finish at 1,328.40.

The BSE Sensex 30 showed a similar mix of movers. Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) rose 1.47% to 186.10. Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) climbed 1.03% to settle at 1,230.00. Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) posted a gain of 0.80%, closing at 1,318.40.

On the Sensex downside, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) fell 2.66% to 1,138.00 in late trade. HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) lost 2.53% to settle at 1,325.60, and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) declined 2.20% to finish at 1,882.50.

Market breadth on the exchanges reflected the selling pressure. On the National Stock Exchange, falling issues outnumbered advancing ones by 1,381 to 1,196, with 57 stocks unchanged. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2,216 stocks declined and 1,953 advanced, while 181 closed unchanged.


Volatility, commodities and currencies

The India VIX, which gauges implied volatility for Nifty 50 options, increased 0.88% to 11.41.

In commodities trading, December Gold Futures rose 0.56% or 24.75 to $4,462.05 a troy ounce. Crude oil for October delivery fell 0.32% or 0.26 to $81.21 a barrel, while the October Brent contract eased 0.12% or 0.11 to trade at $88.41 a barrel.

On the currency front, USD/INR moved higher by 0.27% to 95.69. EUR/INR rose 0.39% to 110.85. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 99.31.


This trading session left key indices modestly lower, with sector-level weakness concentrated in IT, technology and FMCG names while select industrials and financials outperformed. Volatility ticked up and commodity and currency moves were mixed, reflecting a market with differentiated sector performance.
