Morgan Stanley models predict rapid top-line expansion for Cursor's subscription-like revenue stream, forecasting annual recurring revenue to rise from roughly $4 billion in June to $8 billion by the end of 2026, $17 billion in 2027 and about $33 billion by 2030. The bank expects enterprise customers to account for approximately 75% to 80% of that revenue base.

From an operational and product-integration perspective, Morgan Stanley highlights a number of potential synergies. Cursor's developer workflow could be combined with Grok's intelligence and real-time inputs from X, run on SpaceXAI's compute infrastructure, and be distributed via Starlink connectivity. The analysis also notes that a partnership with Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) could yield applications in robotics and other physical AI use cases.

Despite the upside scenarios, the core strategic question is whether Cursor can transition from primarily serving as an interface that accesses external models to becoming a developer of frontier-level, proprietary models itself. Morgan Stanley's valuation view reflects confidence in that transition - the bank has an Overweight rating and a $300 price target, compared with the $133.11 closing price cited in the report - and its $600 bull case assumes Cursor will develop materially stronger proprietary models and that SpaceX will capture a greater share of value across AI software, compute and deployment.

Key near-term catalysts identified by Morgan Stanley include: completion of the Anysphere acquisition, third-quarter financial disclosures, the timing and content of new Grok model releases, and updates on Cursor's recurring revenue trajectory.

The report also lists explicit risks to the thesis. These include competition from open-source coding tools, the potential for declining prices for AI models, dependence on third-party AI providers while Cursor builds out proprietary capabilities, and the prospect of weak margins during the transition period. On margins specifically, Morgan Stanley projects Cursor's gross margin will turn positive in 2026 and rise into the low-60% range by 2030 as activity shifts toward proprietary models and SpaceX infrastructure.


For stakeholders tracking production, capacity and monetization, the coming quarters will be pivotal. Execution on model development, integration across the SpaceX technology stack, and the ability to translate platform activity into sustainable recurring revenue will determine whether the acquisition meaningfully reshapes SpaceX's cash-flow profile.
