The International Energy Agency projects a 0.5% reduction in global natural gas consumption in 2026 - roughly a 20 billion cubic metre drop - driven by higher prices and reduced flows through the Strait of Hormuz following the U.S.-Iran conflict. The contraction is linked to lower demand from power plants and industry, with fuel switching in Asia c…
U.S. semiconductor stocks rallied on Monday after news that Broadcom would extend a chip supply deal with Apple through 2031, lifting the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. A vessel was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz overnight, officials said, igniting an engine-room fire about 8 nautical miles off Oman's coast. The incident occurred as millions of Iranians attended funeral processions for the slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and as Iran's foreign minister warned that peace negotiations will…
European wholesale gas markets climbed on Tuesday as forecasts for an intense summer heatwave raised the prospect of greater power-sector demand while unscheduled extensions to maintenance in Norway reduced pipeline flows. Storage levels are refilling at a slower seasonal pace, leaving inventories below last year’s level at the same point and addin…
Gold prices retreated during Asian trading as markets wrestle with persistent uncertainty over U.S. interest rates and inflation. In Washington on July 6, President Donald Trump said the United States would either reach an agreement with Iran or take military action to 'finish the job.' Iran has seen vast turnout at a week of funerals and public ceremonies for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, killed in U.S.-Israeli strikes at the start of the war. Authorities portray the crowds as a sign of unity and defiance, yet analysts, officials and participants caution that attendance does not equal broad popular support. Persistent ec…
Wheat prices on Euronext rose after a sharp rally in maize on both sides of the Atlantic and weather forecasts that raise concerns for corn crops. Support came from a weaker euro and a large Saudi Arabian purchase, while strong French harvest volumes and expected Black Sea output limited further gains.
The mass turnout at the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader signalled national unity and sent a message to the United States and Israel that Tehran weathered the conflict that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on February 28. Officials and analysts say Iran is using that perceived resilience to press for recognition of its control over the Strait of…
