Canada's stock market ended Thursday's session in negative territory as sector declines drove the S&P/TSX Composite down 0.23%, leaving the index at a fresh one-month low at the Toronto close.
Sectors that weighed on the market were Materials, Industrials and Telecoms, which together contributed to the downward pressure on the index. At the close, decliners outnumbered advancers on the Toronto Stock Exchange by a margin of 586 to 373, while 63 issues finished unchanged.

- Enerflex Ltd. (TSX: EFX) led gains, jumping 11.89% or 3.85 points to finish at 36.23.
- 5N Plus Inc. (TSX: VNP) rose 5.90% or 1.79 points to close at 32.11.
- Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) advanced 5.03% or 2.72 points to end the session at 56.82.
Largest decliners
- DPM Metals Inc. (TSX: DPM) posted the steepest loss, falling 8.91% or 5.59 points to 57.16 at the close.
- Trevor Metals Limited (TSX: TKO) declined 5.93% or 0.75 points to 11.89.
- Saputo Inc. (TSX: SAP) slipped 4.75% or 1.90 points to finish at 38.11.
Implied volatility on the S&P/TSX options, as measured by the S&P/TSX 60 VIX, eased during the session, falling 3.75% to 13.60.
Commodity markets showed only modest movement at the close. December gold futures were up 0.09%, adding 3.90 to trade at 4,206.20 a troy ounce. In oil, the November crude contract inched higher by 0.06% to $92.93 a barrel, while the December Brent contract rose 0.03% to $102.34 a barrel.
On currencies, the Canadian dollar was essentially flat versus major peers. CAD/USD held steady, changing by 0.04% to 0.70, and CAD/EUR was unchanged at 0.62. The US Dollar Index futures moved lower by 0.09% to 101.79.
