Key market measures at a glance: Athens General Composite -0.03%; Gold Futures (Aug) -2.42% at $4,014.05/oz; Crude Oil (Aug) +3.89% at $74.19/bbl; Brent (Sep) +3.88% at $78.96/bbl; US Dollar Index Futures +0.16% at 100.92.

For investors and analysts watching Greece's market structure, the session highlighted concentration of gains in energy and water utilities amid broader sectoral weakness, and underscored how commodity price swings can coincide with divergent equity performance across sectors.

Risks

  • Sector concentration risk - gains were concentrated in energy and utilities while telecoms, household and basic resources lagged, which can increase volatility in the index.
  • Commodity price volatility - the sharp fall in gold and sharp rise in crude prices could amplify uncertainty for related sectors and commodity-linked equities.
  • Market breadth deterioration - more declining stocks than rising ones (65 vs. 53) may signal weakening participation beyond the top-performing names.
