Meta has launched Pocket, a new mobile application designed to let users build and distribute short interactive experiences generated from simple prompts. The product centers on so-called "gizmos" - bite-sized, playable pieces of interactive content that users can create by entering text prompts within the app.
Pocket is being introduced in a phased rollout across select regions and is available on Google’s Play Store. The app combines a social feed for browsing gizmos created by people around the world with interactive elements that react to touch and to the phone’s tilt. Gizmos can also incorporate sound effects and music and have the option to access the device’s camera or photo library when creators choose to enable those features.
Earlier this year, Meta acquired the team behind Atma Sciences Inc., a startup that had developed an app called Gizmo. Alongside the acquisition, Meta obtained a non-exclusive license to the startup’s technology. Meta has not disclosed any financial terms associated with the transaction.
The company did not provide a public comment in response to a request for comment related to the app’s launch.
Market reaction was visible in trading: shares of Roblox and Unity Software declined during the session following the news of Pocket’s release. The report of the app’s introduction and the prior acquisition of Atma Sciences’ team appear to have coincided with short-term price moves in companies tied to user-generated gaming and real-time interactive content tools.
Pocket’s combination of AI-generated content, sensor-driven interactivity and a social discovery feed positions it as a mobile-first experiment in short-form interactive experiences. The rollout in limited regions may constrain immediate reach while Meta evaluates adoption and engagement metrics in the initial markets.
