Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (NASDAQ:GILT) saw its shares rise 4% in premarket trading following an announcement that Boeing will include Gilat’s Sidewinder antenna as a line-fit option for in-flight connectivity service providers.
Under the agreement, Boeing will make line-fit installation of Gilat’s multi-orbit Sidewinder electronically steered antenna available through in-flight connectivity integration partners. The companies described the arrangement as a way to accelerate airline adoption of advanced inflight broadband connectivity.
The Sidewinder terminal is built around a compact, electronically steered antenna architecture. Gilat says the design simplifies installation and reduces long-term maintenance costs compared with more complex or mechanically steered systems. The line-fit approach is intended to eliminate expenses and the service interruptions that can accompany retrofit programs, allowing airlines to enter service with factory-integrated connectivity equipment rather than adding it after delivery.
Gilat also emphasized the terminal’s open, no lock-in model. That openness is presented as a way for airlines to expand onboard services and improve operational efficiency while scaling capacity to meet growing connectivity demand.
"Partnering with Boeing for this line-fit program is a true honor and reflects our focus on bringing advanced connectivity solutions to the aviation market," said Ron Levin, President of Gilat Commercial Division.
Gilat Satellite Networks provides satellite networking technology, solutions, and services on a global basis. The company’s shares trade on the Nasdaq under the symbol GILT and are also listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange under the same ticker.
