Shares of Clear Secure Inc (NYSE:YOU) moved higher in premarket trading Tuesday after the company disclosed a partnership with Samsung Electronics America to introduce Samsung ID with CLEAR.

The agreement integrates CLEAR’s identity verification services into Samsung Wallet, enabling holders of valid U.S. passports to create and store a TSA-approved digital ID on their phones. The digital credential can be presented at over 250 Transportation Security Administration checkpoints and used for domestic travel, according to the announcement.

Samsung ID with CLEAR is constructed from information in U.S. passports and is verified by CLEAR’s platform. The service also supports age verification at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, with additional sporting venues planned for future availability.

"CLEAR’s secure identity verification platform makes experiences safer and easier - both physically and digitally," said CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman Becker. "Now with CLEAR’s secure identity platform embedded in Samsung Wallet, verifying your identity is easier than ever."

The offering is provided at no cost to Samsung Wallet users. Travelers will be able to present the digital ID at participating TSA checkpoints either by tapping their phone or scanning a QR code. Samsung Wallet is described as a storage platform for payment cards, IDs, passes, and digital keys, and the integration is designed to cover passports, travel, age verification, and other government use cases.

Users with valid U.S. passports can set up Samsung ID with CLEAR within the Samsung Wallet app by navigating to the Quick Access tab and following the verification prompts. The announcement emphasizes the mobile-first verification experience that aims to remove the need to present physical identification documents at participating locations.

What this means for markets and users

  • The partnership prompted a near-term positive market reaction for Clear Secure, reflected in the premarket share movement reported after the announcement.
  • The integration targets travel-related identity workflows by enabling phone-based verification at hundreds of TSA checkpoints, which may affect consumer behavior around airport ID handling.
  • Event venues and age-restricted access points are an initial secondary use case, with BMO Stadium named as the first participating sporting venue and more venues planned.

How to access

Samsung Wallet users with a valid U.S. passport can enable Samsung ID with CLEAR through the app's Quick Access tab and complete the verification prompts. The service is designed for domestic travel and certain verification scenarios and is offered without cost to eligible Samsung Wallet users.

Risks

  • Rollout is initially limited in scope - the digital ID is available only to Samsung Wallet users with valid U.S. passports, which may constrain near-term adoption in the consumer tech and travel sectors.
  • Venue availability beyond BMO Stadium is described as planned but not guaranteed, introducing uncertainty for event and venue operators relying on the service for age verification.
  • Use cases are focused on passports, travel, and government-related verification; other potential applications and broader acceptance are not detailed, creating uncertainty for wider market impact.
