Taiwan's stock market ended the trading day in negative territory on Thursday, with the Taiwan Weighted slipping 1.34% at the close. Market weakness was driven in part by declines in the Glass and Electricity sectors, which contributed to the overall downward pressure on equities.
Among individual names, Para Light Electronics Co Ltd (TW:6226) posted one of the session's largest gains, rising 10.00% - up 1.25 points to close at 13.75. Cheer Time Enterprise Co Ltd (TW:3229) also advanced 10.00%, adding 4.50 points to finish at 49.50. Chung Fu Tex-International Corp (TW:1435) completed the trio of 10% winners, climbing 1.55 points to end the session at 17.05.
On the downside, Trk Corp (TW:1432) registered the steepest decline among the most actively moved names, dropping 11.94% - down 2.15 points to close at 15.85. APAQ Technology Co Ltd (TW:6449) fell 10.85%, a decline of 46.50 points to 382.00, while Nanya Technology Corp (TW:2408) slipped 10.00%, or 50.50 points, to finish at 454.50.
Market internals were skewed to the downside. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 0 to 0.
Trk Corp (TW:1432) in particular fell to a 52-week low on the session, with its 11.94% decline taking the share price to 15.85.
Commodities trading showed declines for energy and precious metals. Crude oil for August delivery fell 1.34%, sliding 0.94 to $69.40 a barrel. Brent crude for September delivery lost 1.33%, down 0.98 to $72.89 a barrel. In precious metals, the August Gold Futures contract eased 0.18%, a drop of 7.18 to trade at $4,001.62 a troy ounce.
Currency moves included a modest rise in the U.S. dollar versus the Taiwan dollar. USD/TWD was up 0.22% to 31.82, while TWD/CNY was reported as unchanged 0.19% to 0.21.
Elsewhere on benchmarks, the U.S. Dollar Index Futures was trading down 0.05% at 101.34.
