Amprius Technologies Inc. shares are priced for an options-implied move of 11% when the company releases its quarterly report on Nov. 11 after the market closes, based on options data compiled by Bloomberg. That implied range reflects the market's expectation for the stock's absolute directional change around the earnings event.
A review of recent earnings reactions shows the firm's stock has tended to exceed those implied ranges. In six of the last eight quarterly announcements, the actual price change surpassed the magnitude suggested by options. For example, on Aug. 4 options signaled an expected move of 13.4%, but the stock instead moved 20.7%. Similarly, on March 4 the options-implied move was 16.6%, while the share price ultimately swung 37.9%.
Some of the most pronounced divergences between implied and realized moves occurred earlier in the sample period. On March 19, 2025, options implied a 9.6% move, yet the stock shifted 29.8% - the largest gap recorded in the set of observations. On May 6, options suggested a 12.9% move and shares fell 18.2%, another instance where actual volatility outpaced the market's expectations.
There were two occasions when the stock's post-earnings reaction was smaller than what options had implied. On Nov. 6, 2025, options priced in a 10.3% move but the stock only changed by 1.8%. On Nov. 7, 2024, the implied move was 21.9% while the realized change measured 14.6%.
Additional examples of realized moves exceeding implied ranges include Aug. 7, 2025, when the stock moved 15% against an expected 11.4% move, and May 8, 2025, when shares changed 14.4% compared with a 13.9% implied move.
For traders and investors, these historical outcomes indicate that while options-implied moves provide a market consensus for expected volatility around earnings, actual reactions have a record of both overshooting and undershooting that consensus. The upcoming Nov. 11 earnings release will be another data point to assess how closely the options market is aligning with realized post-earnings behavior for Amprius.
