Moroccan equities closed lower on Tuesday, with sector pressure in Utilities, Banking and Mining pushing the Moroccan All Shares to a decline of 0.68% at the Casablanca close.
The market saw a clear skew toward falling names: 42 issues lost ground, 12 advanced and 10 were unchanged by the end of trading.
Among the session's winners, Total Maroc SA (CSE:TMA) outperformed, rising 2.94% - a gain of 45.00 points - to finish at 1,575.00. Consumer retailer Label Vie (CSE:LBV) added 1.32%, an increase of 52.00 points, closing at 4,000.00. Industrial gas producer Maghreb Oxygene (CSE:MOX) also posted a modest advance of 1.24%, up 4.95 points to 404.95 in late trade.
On the downside, metallurgical group Zellidja S.A (CSE:ZDJ) recorded the largest drop, sliding 6.30% or 21.10 points to end at 313.90. Construction-focused Ste de Travaux de Realisation d’Ouvrages et de Constuction Industielle SA (CSE:STR) fell 3.65%, down 7.00 points to 185.00, while chemical and petrochemical firm Nationale d’Electrolyse et de Petrochimie Ste SA (CSE:SNP) declined 3.13%, losing 12.00 points to close at 372.00.
Commodity prices moved higher during the session. Crude oil for September delivery gained 0.44% - an increase of 0.36 - to trade at $82.49 per barrel. Brent oil for October delivery rose 0.59%, up 0.52 to $88.24 a barrel. The December Gold Futures contract advanced 0.68% or 30.10 to trade at $4,449.80 a troy ounce.
Currency moves showed the euro weakening against the Moroccan dirham, with EUR/MAD down 0.81% at 10.69. The dollar also slipped slightly versus the dirham as USD/MAD fell 0.07% to 9.31. The US Dollar Index Futures was essentially flat, up 0.01% at 99.71.
