Technip Energies reported a disappointing second quarter, with profitability metrics coming in substantially below consensus and management trimming part of its 2026 guidance as a result of sustained operational difficulties in the Middle East.
On a reported basis the company recorded adjusted net income of €10.5 million for the quarter, a sizable miss versus the company consensus of €97 million. Adjusted EBITDA reached €63.5 million, equivalent to a 3.4% margin, versus consensus expectations of €152 million and a 7.9% margin.
The Projects division was the primary source of the shortfall, delivering EBITDA of €23.8 million at a 1.7% margin. That result is well below the consensus estimate for the division of €96 million at a 6.7% margin. Technip Energies attributed the Projects division underperformance to operational and contractual challenges tied to conflict-related disruptions in the Middle East, as well as secondary cost impacts arising from those disruptions.
By contrast, the Technology, Products and Services segment produced EBITDA of €69 million with a 15.4% margin, in line with the market consensus of €69 million and roughly matching the expected margin of 14.4%.
Order activity during the quarter was robust, with order intake totaling €6.7 billion. That intake produced a book-to-bill ratio of 3.57 times, above the company consensus figure of €5.8 billion. The firm’s backlog rose 24% sequentially to €25 billion from €20.2 billion.
On the balance sheet the company reported adjusted net cash of €3.42 billion at the end of the quarter, up 6% from €3.2 billion in the first quarter. Management noted the increase was driven by a €501 million working capital inflow.
As a result of the Q2 performance and the ongoing operational environment in the Middle East, Technip Energies lowered its full-year 2026 Projects Delivery EBITDA margin guidance to above 5%, down from a previous range of 6.5% to 7.5%. The company left its full-year revenue guidance unchanged at €5.7 billion to €6.3 billion and stated the revised outlook assumes no change to current operating conditions in the second half.
For the Technology, Products and Services segment, management nudged margin guidance to approximately 15% from 14.5%, while maintaining the segment revenue guidance at €1.9 billion to €2.2 billion. Corporate costs guidance was raised to a range of €65 million to €75 million from a prior range of €50 million to €60 million.
At the midpoint of the revised guidance ranges, the company’s implied EBITDA is €538 million, which represents a 19% reduction versus consensus estimates of €662 million.
Technip Energies’ quarter therefore combines weaker-than-expected near-term profitability driven by project execution pressures in the Middle East with stronger commercial momentum evidenced by elevated order intake and a larger backlog. Adjusted net cash improved driven by working capital improvements, even as management now plans for a lower Projects Delivery margin for 2026 unless operating conditions change.
