April 29 - Ukrainian officials reported overnight drone strikes in the southern Odesa region that hit port infrastructure and caused damage to residential buildings and a hospital, leaving two people wounded.
Regional Governor Oleh Kiper posted on Telegram that the attack destroyed the admissions department of a hospital in the south of the Odesa region and badly damaged other parts of the facility. He said medical staff and patients were sheltering at the time and were subsequently relocated to another medical facility.
Regional prosecutors confirmed that port infrastructure facilities came under attack, but did not provide further details on the specific targets or the scale of the damage.
Emergency services said two people were injured amid fires in a residential area and released photos showing buildings ablaze and firefighters working to extinguish the flames. Kiper also reported that a fire was recorded at the Danube Biosphere Reserve, a designated nature reserve in the region.
The Odesa region contains major Ukrainian seaports and river ports along the Danube - facilities that have been repeatedly targeted during what officials describe as Moscow’s more than four-year-old war.
Separately, Ukraine’s air force said that since Monday evening Russia had launched 171 drones at the country, and that air defence units had downed or neutralised 154 of those drones.
In the northeastern Sumy region, local officials said a separate combined drone and missile attack killed one person and wounded two others, and caused large-scale fires in a residential area.
Context and immediate effects
The reported strikes in Odesa damaged medical and port infrastructure and ignited fires affecting residential neighborhoods and an environmentally protected area. Authorities moved hospital staff and patients from a shelter to another facility following damage to the admissions department.
Response
Regional prosecutors have registered the attacks on port infrastructure but have not released detailed findings. Ukrainian air defence forces reported engaging a large number of drones across the country during the same timeframe.
