Uber Technologies on Wednesday introduced a hotel booking capability inside its mobile app through a partnership with Expedia Group, a step the company says is intended to broaden the range of services available to users and capture a larger share of travel-related spending.
Unveiled at Uber's annual GO-GET event, the new "hotels" tab will enable U.S. customers to search and book from more than 700,000 hotels worldwide using Expedia's inventory directly within Uber. The integration permits users to filter results by price, ratings and amenities, and to complete purchases through their existing Uber wallet.
Uber said vacation rental listings from Vrbo, which is owned by Expedia, are planned to be added later this year. The partnership also reflects an executive history between the companies: Uber's CEO Dara Khosrowshahi previously served as CEO of Expedia before joining Uber in 2017.
Membership incentives are part of the rollout. Uber One subscribers will receive at least 20% discounts on a curated set of 10,000 hotels and will earn 10% back in Uber Credits on bookings, according to Uber. The company said these perks are intended to make travel bookings more attractive to its existing subscriber base.
Beyond hotel reservations, Uber outlined a wider set of travel and commerce extensions aimed at creating a more integrated user experience. Starting in June, Uber One benefits will apply internationally. A new "travel mode" will provide location-specific guidance for rides and offer curated recommendations for dining and attractions.
Other announced features include:
- "Eats for the way" - enabling riders in select U.S. cities to pre-order snacks or drinks with premium rides.
- "Shop for me" - allowing users to request items from stores not currently listed on Uber Eats.
- AI-powered voice booking and a unified search that spans rides, food and retail.
Collectively, Uber framed these additions as steps toward positioning the app as a single platform that integrates multiple services - a "super app" approach that bundles mobility, food and travel offerings. Uber reported that its Uber One membership reached 46 million users as of the fourth quarter of 2025, a 55% increase from the prior year.
While the announcement focuses on product integrations and membership benefits, the company presented the update as part of a broader effort to boost user engagement and to open additional revenue streams by embedding travel services into the same experience users currently use for rides and food.
