Key Points

  • MongoDB shares rose 12.2% amid broad software-sector strength following Datadog’s better-than-expected quarter and raised guidance; Datadog jumped about 30% premarket.
  • MongoDB unveiled Automated Voyage AI Embeddings (public preview) for MongoDB Vector Search and released MongoDB 8.3, which the company says improves reads, writes, ACID transactions, and complex operations versus 8.0.
  • New integrations include general availability of LangGraph.js Long-Term Memory Store for JavaScript/TypeScript and cross-region AWS PrivateLink connectivity for MongoDB Atlas clusters, aiming to consolidate database, search, memory, and embedding capabilities.

MongoDB (NASDAQ:MDB) shares jumped 12.2% in Thursday trading, buoyed by a rally across software names that followed robust results from Datadog (NASDAQ:DDOG). The sector-wide lift came after Datadog reported a stronger-than-expected quarter and raised its guidance, a report that sent Datadog shares up about 30% in premarket trading and helped sentiment across technology stocks.

Separately, at its MongoDB local London 2026 conference on Wednesday, MongoDB rolled out several AI-focused capabilities and a new database release. The company introduced Automated Voyage AI Embeddings within MongoDB Vector Search, which is available in public preview and automatically generates embeddings as data is written or updated.

MongoDB also launched version 8.3 of its database software. According to the company, MongoDB 8.3 offers material performance gains relative to MongoDB 8.0: up to 45% more reads, 35% more writes, 15% more ACID transactions, and 30% more complex operations. In addition, the LangGraph.js Long-Term Memory Store integration is now generally available, providing JavaScript and TypeScript developers with persistent agent memory functionality powered by MongoDB Atlas.

The company said its Voyage AI embedding models rank first on the Retrieval Embedding Benchmark, a ranking it attributed to its internal testing. MongoDB framed these updates as part of an effort to consolidate database, search, memory, and embedding capabilities to simplify deployment of AI agents on a single platform.

"The hardest part of running agents in production isn’t the model. It’s the data layer underneath it," said CJ Desai, President and Chief Executive Officer of MongoDB.

On the networking front, MongoDB announced that cross-region connectivity for AWS PrivateLink is now generally available, enabling database traffic between MongoDB Atlas clusters in different AWS regions to remain on the AWS private network.

The share-price movement appears to reflect a mix of sector momentum led by Datadog’s earnings and investor interest in MongoDB’s new product capabilities and stated performance improvements.

Risks

  • Short-term stock movement tied to sector-wide sentiment - gains coincided with Datadog’s earnings-driven rally and may be sensitive to broader software market swings.
  • Some AI features are in public preview, indicating they are not final production releases and adoption or performance in customer environments could differ from expectations.
  • Performance and benchmark claims are presented by the company - the article reports these statements as company assertions rather than independently verified outcomes.
