Meta Platforms confirmed on Friday that it has completed the acquisition of Assured Robot Intelligence, a start-up focused on building artificial intelligence models for robotic systems. Meta characterized the company as working at the frontier of robotic intelligence, aiming to give machines the ability to understand, predict and adapt to human behavior in complex, changing environments. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Following the deal, the Assured Robot Intelligence team will join Meta Superintelligence Labs, the company’s research arm. Co-founders Lerrel Pinto and Xiaolong Wang will be integrated into that organization and will also collaborate with Meta Robotics Studio, a group formed in 2025 to develop core technologies for humanoid robots.
The reporting on personnel backgrounds in the acquisition remains limited to the information Meta provided. Xiaolong Wang previously worked as a researcher at Nvidia. Lerrel Pinto was the co-founder of Fauna Robotics before leaving that company in 2025; Fauna was subsequently acquired by Amazon in March to support Amazon’s own humanoid robot development efforts.
Assured Robot Intelligence had employees located in San Diego and New York. According to Meta, the group will add capabilities in designing models and frontier-level functionality for robot control and self-learning, with a focus on whole-body humanoid control.
Context and implications
Meta positioned the acquisition as a step in its broader push into humanoid technology. The addition of a specialist team that concentrates on behavioral understanding and adaptive responses in robots aligns with Meta’s stated research priorities. No financial details were revealed, and Meta has not provided additional technical specifics beyond the general capabilities the Assured team is expected to contribute.
Location and structure
The combined teams will operate within Meta’s research organizations. Meta Superintelligence Labs will host the new hires, and collaboration is expected with Meta Robotics Studio, the entity assembled in 2025 to develop foundational humanoid technology.
Personnel note
The transaction brings onboard co-founders Lerrel Pinto and Xiaolong Wang, each with prior experience in robotics and AI research. Beyond those named individuals, further staffing details have not been disclosed.
