Sweden's stock market ended Monday's session in positive territory as sector strength in Telecoms, Basic Materials and Financials underpinned broader gains.
The benchmark OMX Stockholm 30 closed up 0.85%, marking a new all-time high for the index.
Top and bottom performers
- Leading the winners on the OMXS30 was SAAB AB ser. B, which climbed 2.88% - a rise of 17.20 points - to finish at 615.10.
- EQT AB added 2.81%, a gain of 9.10 points, to close at 332.80.
- AB SKF B rose 2.72%, up 7.00 points, to end the day at 264.80.
- On the downside, AstraZeneca PLC fell 9.43% - down 153.50 points - to trade at 1,474.00 at the close.
- Essity AB B declined 0.43%, or 1.20 points, to 276.00.
- Boliden AB was down 0.21%, slipping 1.00 point to 475.80.
Across the Stockholm exchange, advancing issues outnumbered decliners, with 392 stocks higher against 324 that fell, while 75 were unchanged.
Commodities and currencies
Energy markets saw notable weakness. Crude oil for September delivery dropped 6.08% (a fall of 5.15) to settle at $79.52 per barrel. Brent for October delivery fell 4.74%, down 4.17, to $83.76 a barrel. Precious metals also retreated: the December Gold Futures contract lost 0.37%, or 15.05, to trade at $4,091.95 a troy ounce.
Currency moves included EUR/SEK rising 0.38% to 11.00 and USD/SEK strengthening 0.54% to 9.55. The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 99.81.
Monday's session combined a record closing level for the OMXS30 with uneven results among major names and pressure in commodity markets. Sector-level strength was sufficient to lift the benchmark despite sizeable losses for several large-cap components.
