Portugal's main stock index ended Thursday's session with a clear advance, as the PSI rose 1.44% at the close in Lisbon. Gains were driven by strength in the Telecoms, Utilities and Technology sectors, which lifted an otherwise mixed market backdrop.
Among individual stocks, Nos SGPS SA (ELI:NOS) was the session's top performer, increasing 5.00% - a gain of 0.26 points - to finish at 5.36. Teixeira Duarte (ELI:TDSA) added 2.74%, or 0.01 points, closing at 0.43. EDP Renovaveis (ELI:EDPR) also recorded a meaningful advance, rising 2.69% or 0.36 points to end the day at 13.73.
On the downside, Corticeira Amorim (ELI:CORA) declined 0.90%, a drop of 0.06 points, to close at 6.59. Jeronimo Martins SGPS SA (ELI:JMT) slipped 0.11%, or 0.02 points, to finish at 17.68. The Navigator Company SA (ELI:NVGR) was unchanged for the session, holding steady at 3.50.
Market breadth in Lisbon favored advancers: 18 stocks rose, six fell and five ended the session flat. Notably, The Navigator Company (ELI:NVGR) closed unchanged at 3.50, a level the report identifies as a 52-week high.
Commodities traded with modest moves. Brent oil for August delivery was up 0.31%, or 0.29, to $93.39 a barrel. US crude for July delivery gained 0.88%, or 0.79, to $90.82 a barrel. In precious metals, the August Gold Futures contract moved lower by 0.46%, a fall of 18.96, to trade at $4,114.34 a troy ounce.
Currency markets showed small changes. The euro-dollar pair (EUR/USD) was reported unchanged at 1.15 with a 0.21% notation, and EUR/GBP was unchanged at 0.86 with a 0.02% figure. The US Dollar Index Futures advanced 0.31% to 100.25.
The session illustrated selective strength across sectors, with Telecoms, Utilities and Technology names helping to push the PSI higher while several major names posted modest declines or held flat.
