Portugal's stock market finished the trading session lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark PSI index ending the day down 0.03% in Lisbon. Sector pressure from Consumer Services, Utilities and Consumer Goods contributed to the modest decline.
At the close, Semapa (ELI:SEM) was the best-performing PSI constituent, advancing 1.56% (0.31 points) to finish at 20.15. CTT Correios de Portugal SA (ELI:CTT) also moved higher, gaining 1.31% (0.08 points) to close at 6.18. Shares of Banco Comercial Portugues (ELI:BCP) rose 0.74% (0.01 points) to 1.09 in late trade.
On the downside, Jeronimo Martins SGPS SA (ELI:JMT) led losses among the larger names, falling 1.02% (0.18 points) to end at 17.44. Mota Engil SGPS SA (ELI:MOTA) declined 0.90% (0.04 points) to 4.61, while Teixeira Duarte (ELI:TDSA) slipped 0.80% to 0.50.
Market breadth on the Lisbon exchange was mixed. Rising issues narrowly outnumbered decliners, with 14 stocks higher, 13 lower and 4 unchanged at the close.
Banco Comercial Portugues (ELI:BCP) was noted to have reached a five-year high in the session, finishing up 0.74% (0.01) at 1.09.
Commodities moved noticeably during the session. Brent oil for October delivery shed 5.29% (4.43) to trade at $79.34 a barrel. U.S. crude for September delivery fell 5.45% (4.38) to $75.96 a barrel.
