Norwegian equities finished modestly higher on Monday, with the Oslo OBX rising 0.31% to reach a new one-month high at the close of trade. Broad gains were driven by stronger showings in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Pharma Biotech & Life Sciences and Utilities sectors.
Among individual stocks, Tomra Systems ASA (OL:TOM) led advancers on the Oslo OBX, climbing 2.96% - an increase of 3.10 points - to end the session at 107.90. Subsea 7 SA (OL:SUBC) added 2.64%, or 8.40 points, finishing at 326.80, while Kongsberg Gruppen ASA (OL:KOG) rose 2.26% - up 6.70 points - to close at 302.90.
On the downside, Yara International ASA (OL:YAR) was the worst performer on the index, slipping 2.87% - a decline of 12.80 points - to finish at 433.90. Energy heavyweight Equinor ASA (OL:EQNR) declined 1.42%, shedding 5.50 points to end at 380.90. Shipping firm Frontline Ltd (OL:FRO) fell 0.53%, or 2.00 points, to close at 373.80.
Market breadth was slightly negative by the close: declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the Oslo Stock Exchange, with 125 stocks down versus 115 up, and 40 unchanged.
Commodities saw notable weakness during the session. Crude oil for September delivery fell 6.08%, a drop of 5.15, to settle at $79.52 a barrel. Brent oil for October delivery lost 4.87%, or 4.28, to trade at $83.65 a barrel. In precious metals, the December Gold Futures contract eased 0.37%, or 15.00, to $4,092.00 a troy ounce.
Currency moves included EUR/NOK rising 0.63% to 10.98 and USD/NOK increasing 0.75% to 9.54. The US Dollar Index Futures was slightly lower, down 0.03% at 99.75.
Key movers in the session included a mix of industrial, maritime and energy-linked names that produced the index's net gain, even as broader commodity prices, notably crude and Brent oil, moved lower.
