Norway's stock market finished the trading day higher on Wednesday, with the Oslo OBX index adding 0.63% by the close in Oslo. Sector leadership came from Healthcare Equipment & Services, Pharma Biotech & Life Sciences and Utilities, which collectively helped propel the benchmark upward.
Among individual stocks on the Oslo OBX, Equinor ASA (OL:EQNR) outperformed, advancing 4.00% - a rise of 15.10 points - to finish at 392.50. Var Energi ASA (OL:VAR) also posted gains, climbing 2.33% or 1.09 points to close at 47.90. Aker BP ASA (OL:AKRBP) rose 2.25%, up 7.40 points, to end the session at 336.30.
On the downside, Nordic Semiconductor ASA (OL:NOD) was the largest decliner on the index, slipping 2.88% or 4.50 points to a close of 151.90. Frontline Ltd (OL:FRO) fell 1.59% - a decline of 6.00 points - to 371.90, while Storebrand ASA (OL:STB) lost 1.08%, or 2.20 points, to finish at 200.80.
Breadth on the Oslo exchange was negative despite the index gain: 140 stocks fell versus 102 that rose, and 26 issues ended unchanged.
Commodity markets were active and had visible influence on the session. Crude oil for September delivery jumped 7.61% - up $6.03 - to settle at $85.29 a barrel. Brent oil for October delivery increased 6.99% or $5.74 to a close of $87.82 a barrel. By contrast, the August Gold Futures contract declined 0.90%, a fall of $36.35, to trade at $4,002.35 a troy ounce.
Currency moves showed the euro and dollar trading slightly weaker against the Norwegian krone. EUR/NOK eased 0.27% to 11.00, while USD/NOK declined 0.27% to 9.66. The US Dollar Index Futures ticked up marginally, rising 0.01% to 101.28.
