The session's strongest performers on the Italy 40 included Prysmian SpA (BIT:PRY), which climbed 3.69% or 5.45 points to close at 153.20. Fincantieri SpA (BIT:FCT) gained 3.39% or 0.38 points to finish at 11.44, and Saipem SpA (BIT:SPMI) added 2.37% or 0.10 points to end the day at 4.49.
Conversely, some luxury and consumer names lagged. Brunello Cucinelli (BIT:BCU) was the weakest on the index, falling 3.55% or 3.12 points to close at 84.68. Ferrari NV (BIT:RACE) slipped 1.87% or 5.85 points to end at 307.50, while Moncler SpA (BIT:MONC) declined 1.75% or 0.94 points to 52.84 at the close.
Market breadth on the Milan bourse was narrowly positive, with 330 stocks advancing against 312 decliners and 46 unchanged.
Commodities showed mixed price action. US crude oil for July delivery was slightly lower by 0.04% or 0.03, trading at $76.57 a barrel. Brent crude for August delivery rose 0.93% or 0.74 to $80.59 a barrel. In metals, the August Gold Futures contract moved down 1.86% or 79.03 to trade at $4,166.87 a troy ounce.
Currency moves were modest at the close. EUR/USD was effectively unchanged, quoted approximately 0.07% to 1.15, and EUR/GBP was also little changed at 0.08% to 0.87. The US Dollar Index Futures slipped 0.02% to 100.60.
