U.K. equities ended the trading session in positive territory on Wednesday, with sector strength concentrated in Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and General Retailers pushing the benchmark slightly higher.

Leading the gainers on the index, Next PLC (LON:NXT) climbed 5.74%, adding 850.00 points to finish at 15,660.00, marking an all-time high for the stock. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) rose 4.49% or 118.00 points to close at 2,747.00, while Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) gained 4.12%, up 22.70 points to 573.30 by the close.
On the downside, Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) recorded the largest fall among the index constituents, sliding 6.39% or 70.00 points to 1,025.00 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) fell 4.67%, down 74.00 points to 1,510.60, and Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV) dropped 4.01% or 11.40 points to end at 272.60.
Market breadth on the London Stock Exchange was positive, with 1,002 stocks advancing versus 721 declining; 531 shares finished unchanged.

Commodities and currencies
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery rose 3.41% or 141.55 to $4,294.15 a troy ounce. Crude oil for September delivery slipped 0.21% or 0.16 to $75.61 a barrel, while the October Brent contract increased 0.32% or 0.25 to trade at $79.61 a barrel.
On the foreign exchange front, GBP/USD was effectively unchanged, moving 0.10% to 1.35, and EUR/GBP was unchanged at 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 99.61.
Overall, the close reflected selective strength among mining and retail names that offset notable declines in certain financial and construction-related stocks. The session showed more advancing issues than decliners, while commodity prices and currency pairs posted mixed results.
