Market movers
The top-performing names on the Italy 40 were Avio SpA (BIT:AVI), Banco Bpm SpA (BIT:BAMI) and Leonardo SpA (BIT:LDOF). Avio rose 5.67%, adding 1.77 points to finish at 32.98. Banco Bpm climbed 3.93%, gaining 0.65 points to end at 17.18. Leonardo advanced 2.00%, or 1.15 points, to close at 58.55.
On the downside, Tenaris SA (BIT:TENR) was the largest decliner, falling 7.08% or 1.75 points to close at 22.97. Buzzi Unicem (BIT:BZU) declined 1.26%, slipping 0.53 points to 41.47, and Lottomatica Group SpA (BIT:LTMC) fell 1.07%, or 0.26 points, to 24.01.
Breadth and notable levels
Advancers outnumbered decliners on the Milan exchange, with 400 stocks rising versus 364 that fell. A total of 54 issues finished unchanged. Banco Bpm's shares moved up to five-year highs, with the stock rising 3.93% or 0.65 to 17.18.
Commodities and currencies
In commodities trading, crude oil for September delivery rose 3.38%, an increase of 2.54, to $77.76 a barrel. Brent oil for October delivery gained 3.86%, or 3.07, to $82.52 a barrel. December Gold Futures declined 0.21%, or 9.20, to trade at $4,296.00 a troy ounce.
On the currency front, EUR/USD was at 1.15 with a 0.29% figure noted, while EUR/GBP registered 0.86 with a 0.27% figure recorded. The US Dollar Index Futures traded higher, up 0.31% at 99.85.
