Helsinki stocks ended the trading day in negative territory on Monday, with weakness concentrated in the Healthcare, Oil & Gas and Utilities sectors. The OMX Helsinki 25 closed down 0.11%.
Among the index constituents, Valmet Oyj (HE:VALMT) was the session's strongest performer, rising 2.07% - an increase of 0.54 points - to finish at 26.66. Nokia Oyj (HE:NOKIA) gained 1.61% or 0.13 points, closing at 8.09, and Tieto Oyj (HE:TIETO) advanced 1.51% or 0.28 points to end the day at 18.82.
On the downside, Orion Oyj B (HE:ORNBV) led losses, slipping 1.97% - down 1.60 points - to close at 79.50. Neste Oyj (HE:NESTE) fell 1.73% or 0.53 points to 30.03, and Fortum Oyj (HE:FORTUM) dropped 1.19% or 0.24 points to finish at 19.49.
Market breadth on the Helsinki exchange was slightly positive in raw counts: 100 stocks rose while 80 declined, and 12 issues finished unchanged.
Commodities moved lower over the session. Brent oil for October delivery declined 4.67%, falling $4.11 to $83.82 a barrel. U.S. crude for September delivery dropped 5.96% or $5.05 to $79.62 a barrel. The December gold futures contract eased 0.37%, or $15.33, to trade at $4,091.67 a troy ounce.
In foreign exchange trading, EUR/USD was effectively flat, moving 0.16% to 1.15, while EUR/GBP showed no material change, varying 0.20% to 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index Futures was up slightly, trading 0.02% higher at 99.81.
The session presented a mixed picture: selective stock-level gains in industrial and technology-related names contrasted with broader weakness in energy and utilities, while commodity prices—particularly crude oil benchmarks—registered notable declines. Overall, the modest drop in the benchmark reflects a market balancing discrete winners against sectoral headwinds.
