Colombian equities finished higher on Friday as gains in Industrials, Services and Agriculture pushed the benchmark upward. At the market close, the COLCAP index was up 2.12% and reached a new one-month high.
Among individual movers, Bolsa De Valores De Colombia (BVC:BVC) was the session's top performer, climbing 5.32% - a rise of 820.00 points - to finish at 16,220.00. Preferred shares of Grupo de Inversiones Suramericana SA (BVC:PFGRUPSURA) added 1.78%, an increase of 760.00 points to close at 43,340.00. Preferred shares of Grupo Aval Acciones y Valores SA (BVC:PFAVAL) also advanced, rising 1.77% or 14.00 points to end the day at 807.00.
Not every stock moved higher. Etb (BVC:ETB) declined 2.78%, a fall of 2.00 points, closing at 70.00. Organizacion Terpel SA (BVC:TERPEL) decreased 1.58%, losing 280.00 points to settle at 17,400.00. Grupo Nutresa SA (BVC:NUTRESA) fell 1.25%, a drop of 3,920.00 points to 310,000.00 by the close.
The report on market breadth recorded an unusual reading: falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Colombia Stock Exchange by 0 to 0.
Commodity markets showed mixed performances that may have relevance for export-linked sectors. US coffee C for September delivery rose 2.62%, gaining 8.45 to trade at $331.50. US cocoa for September delivery climbed 5.52%, an increase of 282.00 to reach $5,394.00. By contrast, the August Gold Futures contract fell 1.49%, down 62.00 to trade at $4,098.60 a troy ounce.
Currency movements reinforced pressure on imported inputs and cross-border valuations. The USD/COP rate moved up 1.24% to 3,166.44, while BRL/COP rose 1.06% to 624.69. The US Dollar Index Futures was slightly lower, down 0.05% at 99.67.
