Overall market breadth favored advancers: rising stocks outnumbered decliners on the Athens Stock Exchange by 75 to 32, while 26 issues finished unchanged.

Shares of Piraeus Bank SA (AT:BOPr) advanced to five-year highs, climbing 4.17% (0.40) to settle at 10.00.

Commodities and currencies

Commodities traded lower during the session. Gold Futures for December delivery fell 0.39%, a drop of $15.85, to $4,091.15 a troy ounce. In the oil complex, crude oil for September delivery declined 6.12% or $5.18 to $79.49 a barrel, while the October Brent contract slipped 4.89%, down $4.30, to $83.63 a barrel.

Foreign exchange moves were modest: EUR/USD was unchanged, recorded at 1.15 with a 0.12% notation, and EUR/GBP was unchanged at 0.86 with a 0.16% notation. The US Dollar Index Futures was reported down 0.04% at 99.75.
