Shares of ASM International rose 5.5% to trade at €832 as the market revisited the implications of the company's second-quarter 2026 results. What first prompted a sharp sell-off has increasingly been interpreted more positively by investors parsing the detail behind the headline numbers.
ASM reported Q2 2026 revenue of €1,003 million, marking the first time quarterly sales surpassed the €1 billion threshold. Management said demand for atomic layer deposition and epitaxy systems was a primary contributor to the record top line, with the company citing accelerating AI infrastructure buildout and transitions to advanced process nodes as key demand drivers.
"We delivered another strong quarter, with Q2 2026 revenue of €1,003 million, above the midpoint of our guidance range," said Hichem M’Saad, CEO of ASM.
The company provided a firmed outlook that helped reshape investor sentiment. ASM expects Q3 revenue to rise to €1.1 billion and projects that revenue in the second half of 2026 will be more than 20% higher than in the first half. For the full year, management indicated that 2026 revenue should exceed €4 billion, with advanced logic and foundry work - especially at the 2-nanometer and 1.4-nanometer nodes - plus DRAM and power wafer analog markets highlighted as primary growth contributors.
Analysts moved to bolster institutional conviction after the results and guidance. Deutsche Bank upgraded ASM International to a Buy rating and increased its price target to €1,100 from €1,030. Kepler Cheuvreux retained a Buy rating and raised its target to €1,070 from €970. Those actions provided fresh support for the stock's recovery.
The broader equity backdrop also provided a favorable setting for the rebound. U.S. technology equities were higher on the session, with the NASDAQ advancing 1.2%, creating a constructive environment for globally traded semiconductor equipment companies. Peer BE Semiconductor Industries also traded higher on the Amsterdam exchange, reflecting sector-level optimism around AI-driven chip demand.
On the profitability and cash generation front, ASM reported a Q2 gross margin of 51.9% and free cash flow of €355 million, the latter a company-record figure. Management attributed the cash flow outcome to robust profitability combined with improvements in working capital.
Taken together, the elements that appear to have persuaded investors to look beyond the initial reaction include the record quarterly revenue, the firmer Q3 outlook, an elevated full-year revenue target, and the two notable analyst price-target increases. With strong cash flow generation, an industry-leading margin profile and a solid balance sheet, ASM is positioned, in management's view, to pursue its stated 2030 objectives as demand tied to AI and advanced-node transitions continues.
Investors continue to weigh the updated guidance and financials against the earlier market response, with today's share-price rebound signaling renewed confidence among some market participants.
