Amazon launched Alexa+ across Canada on Thursday, offering Prime subscribers unrestricted use of its generative AI assistant at no additional cost. The company said the upgraded assistant supports both English and French and can be accessed on Alexa-enabled devices, at Alexa.com in a browser, and through the Alexa mobile application.
Amazon reported adoption gains since the assistant's earlier introduction. Canadians are interacting with Alexa+ at double the rate recorded for the prior generation, the company said, with smart home-related interactions rising by 60% and recipe requests increasing fivefold. Over the past year, Alexa interactions in French totaled more than 450 million.
Functionality within Alexa+ includes control of smart home devices, making restaurant reservations, planning trip itineraries, and searching for products online. The assistant already connects with several local services, including CBC, OpenTable, Fodors, and a variety of music providers. Amazon said it intends to add further integrations with Yelp, Uber Eats, Suno, and TripAdvisor.
For non-Prime Canadians, full Alexa+ access is available for a subscription fee of $27.99 CAD per month plus tax. Prime members receive the service as part of their membership. Customers who do not subscribe to Prime can still use a limited, free text-based chat version of Alexa at Alexa.com and within the Alexa app.
Alexa+ first entered the Canadian market in an Early Access phase in November 2025. Amazon provided usage figures reflecting ongoing engagement on its platform: Canadians interact with Alexa more than half a billion times each month and listen to over 50 million hours of music monthly via Echo devices, the company said. Engineering teams in Amazon's Toronto and Vancouver technology hubs contributed to building the new architecture that supports multiple large language models powering Alexa+.
Availability and access
- Prime members - unlimited access to Alexa+ at no extra charge.
- Non-Prime users - full Alexa+ via subscription at $27.99 CAD per month plus tax; limited free text chat available on Alexa.com and the Alexa app.

The rollout positions Alexa+ as a bilingual, generative AI assistant integrated with local Canadian services and previously established Echo device usage. Amazon highlighted both usage growth metrics and the role of its Canadian tech teams in developing the assistant's underlying architecture.
