Omnia, the data center platform of Brazil’s Patria Investments, has agreed to a $2 billion, 20-year energy supply arrangement with renewable generator Casa dos Ventos to provide power for a ByteDance data center being built at the Pecem port complex in Ceara. The supply will come from the 630 MW Ibiapaba wind complex and the Dom Inocencio wind farm in Piaui under a self-production structure that grants Omnia a stake in Casa dos Ventos’ assets. Construction began in January with initial operations slated for the third quarter of 2027 and expansion through 2029.

Key Points

  • Omnia signed a $2 billion, 20-year energy supply agreement with Casa dos Ventos to power a ByteDance data center at Pecem port.
  • Electricity will be sourced from the 630 MW Ibiapaba wind complex and the Dom Inocencio wind farm; the deal is structured as a self-production model giving Omnia an undisclosed stake in Casa dos Ventos’ assets.
  • Construction began in January, with initial operations expected in Q3 2027 and expansion planned through 2029; the contract supports Casa dos Ventos’ plans to add 2.1 GW and invest 11 billion reais.

Omnia, the data center platform operated by Patria Investments, has finalized a $2 billion, 20-year energy supply agreement with renewable producer Casa dos Ventos to power a ByteDance data center currently under construction at the Pecem port complex in the state of Ceara, the companies said.

The site at Pecem is the largest data center development underway in Brazil, with total project investment estimated at 200 billion reais ($39.87 billion). Under the agreement, electricity will be sourced from Casa dos Ventos’ Ibiapaba wind complex, rated at 630 megawatts, and from the Dom Inocencio wind farm located in Piaui state.

Structurally, the transaction is arranged as a self-production model, which provides Omnia with an ownership stake in assets of Casa dos Ventos. The precise size of that stake was not disclosed by the parties.

Work on the data center campus commenced in January, and the companies expect initial operations to begin in the third quarter of 2027. Capacity at the site will be brought online progressively, with phased expansions planned through 2029.

For Casa dos Ventos, the agreement represents the largest single-client contract the generator has executed. The deal underpins the company’s plans to add 2.1 gigawatts of capacity and to invest 11 billion reais as it expands its portfolio.

Environmental groups have raised concerns about project impacts, citing potential water use and effects on nearby indigenous communities. In response, Omnia Chief Executive Rodrigo Abreu said the project is fully licensed, complies with environmental requirements and will require minimal water consumption, quantified by the company as equivalent to that of up to 50 households.

Casa dos Ventos is backed by TotalEnergies.

Key points

  • Omnia secured a $2 billion, 20-year power deal with Casa dos Ventos to supply a ByteDance data center at Pecem port.
  • Power will come from the 630 MW Ibiapaba wind complex and the Dom Inocencio wind farm; the deal is a self-production model that confers an undisclosed stake in assets to Omnia.
  • Construction began in January with initial operations expected in Q3 2027 and staged expansion through 2029; Casa dos Ventos plans 2.1 GW of additions and 11 billion reais of investment supported by the contract.

Risks and uncertainties

  • Environmental and social concerns: advocacy groups have flagged potential water use and impacts on indigenous communities near the project site, which could prompt scrutiny or require mitigation measures.
  • Project timeline and scale: while initial operations are expected in Q3 2027 with expansion to 2029, the phased nature of the rollout introduces timing and execution risk for both the data center and associated power delivery.

Risks

  • Environmental and social concerns: groups have raised issues about water use and potential impacts on nearby indigenous communities, which could require mitigation or lead to opposition.
  • Execution and timing risk: phased start-up through 2029 means there is exposure to potential construction or commissioning delays that could affect operations and power delivery.
