Turkey's equity benchmark closed higher on Thursday, with gains concentrated in the Insurance, Information Technology and Sports sectors pushing the BIST 100 to a fresh record. At the close in Istanbul the index rose 0.82% to reach a new all-time high.
Leading winners on the BIST 100 were Sekerbank TAS (IS:SKBNK), which climbed 10.00% - an increase of 1.29 points - to finish at 14.19, Mia Teknoloji AS (IS:MIATK), which gained 9.97% or 4.34 points to close at 47.88, and Kiler Holding AS (IS:KLRHO), up 9.97% or 11.10 points to end the session at 122.40.
On the downside, Turkiye Petrol Rafinerileri AS (IS:TUPRS) was the weakest large-cap name, sliding 4.34% or 11.75 points to 259.25 at the close. Margun Enerji Uretim Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (IS:MAGEN) fell 4.02% or 2.60 points to finish at 62.05, while Gen Ilac ve Saglik Urunleri Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (IS:GENIL) declined 3.05% or 0.27 points to 8.59.
Market breadth favoured gains broadly: rising issues outnumbered decliners on the Istanbul Stock Exchange by 478 to 130, and 14 stocks finished unchanged.
Two of the session's top performers reached notable milestones. Shares of Sekerbank TAS moved to all-time highs, advancing 10.00% to 14.19, while Mia Teknoloji AS rose to 52-week highs as it climbed 9.97% to 47.88.
Commodities traded mixed. Gold Futures for June delivery rose 1.21% or 56.89 to $4,751.19 a troy ounce. In contrast, crude oil prices fell: June delivery crude slipped 3.26% or 3.10 to $91.98 a barrel, and the July Brent contract declined 3.14% or 3.18 to trade at $98.09 a barrel.
Currency moves were modest. USD/TRY was up 0.09% to 45.25 while EUR/TRY rose 0.39% to 53.37. The US Dollar Index Futures was trading 0.09% lower at 97.79.
