Turkey's equity benchmark closed higher on Thursday, with gains concentrated in the Insurance, Information Technology and Sports sectors pushing the BIST 100 to a fresh record. At the close in Istanbul the index rose 0.82% to reach a new all-time high.

Leading winners on the BIST 100 were Sekerbank TAS (IS:SKBNK), which climbed 10.00% - an increase of 1.29 points - to finish at 14.19, Mia Teknoloji AS (IS:MIATK), which gained 9.97% or 4.34 points to close at 47.88, and Kiler Holding AS (IS:KLRHO), up 9.97% or 11.10 points to end the session at 122.40.

On the downside, Turkiye Petrol Rafinerileri AS (IS:TUPRS) was the weakest large-cap name, sliding 4.34% or 11.75 points to 259.25 at the close. Margun Enerji Uretim Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (IS:MAGEN) fell 4.02% or 2.60 points to finish at 62.05, while Gen Ilac ve Saglik Urunleri Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (IS:GENIL) declined 3.05% or 0.27 points to 8.59.

Market breadth favoured gains broadly: rising issues outnumbered decliners on the Istanbul Stock Exchange by 478 to 130, and 14 stocks finished unchanged.

Two of the session's top performers reached notable milestones. Shares of Sekerbank TAS moved to all-time highs, advancing 10.00% to 14.19, while Mia Teknoloji AS rose to 52-week highs as it climbed 9.97% to 47.88.

Summary of session metrics and notable movers is presented above. The trading day combined broad participation in upside moves with selective weakness among energy, regional healthcare and some smaller capped stocks.

Risks

  • Commodity price volatility - declines in crude oil prices may weigh on energy sector names, as seen with Turkiye Petrol Rafinerileri AS's 4.34% drop.
  • Currency fluctuations - modest moves in USD/TRY and EUR/TRY could influence earnings and imported-input costs for companies sensitive to FX.
  • Concentration of gains - although breadth was positive, strong cluster gains in select sectors mean market advances may be uneven across industries.
