Key Points

  • Total Wireless and Western Union are expanding in-store financial services nationwide, starting in select stores today and continuing through the end of 2026.
  • Services offered include money transfers, bill payments, and money orders at participating Total Wireless locations, available at standard Western Union rates.
  • Subscribers to MAX 5G BYO, MAX 5G, and ALL ACCESS plans receive one fee-free Western Union money transfer per month, redeemable online, via app, or in-store.

Total Wireless announced an expanded collaboration with Western Union to offer financial services inside its retail footprint across the United States. The offering - which became available in select stores today - will be extended to additional Total Wireless locations through the end of 2026.

The integrated services available at participating Total Wireless stores include money transfers, bill payments, and money orders. These services are offered at standard Western Union rates for customers who wish to use them.

Customers enrolled in the MAX 5G BYO, MAX 5G, and ALL ACCESS plans from Total Wireless receive one Western Union money transfer each month with no fee. That monthly benefit can be redeemed via Western Union’s website, Western Union’s mobile application, or in-person at participating Total Wireless retail locations.

On the retail expansion, David Kim, President of Verizon Value, said: "Our stores are gathering places in the communities we serve. By adding Western Union to the retail experience, we’re expanding access to everyday financial services for everyone. Whether customers need to send money, pay bills, or purchase money orders, they can now do it at Total Wireless, right alongside getting the reliable 5G connectivity they count on. That’s what it means to put community first."

The retail addition follows Total Wireless’ June launch as the first U.S. wireless carrier to offer monthly money transfers at no additional cost. Western Union’s global capabilities allow customers to send funds to more than 200 countries and territories through a network of over 360,000 payout locations worldwide.

Jesse Mory, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Western Union, commented on the partnership: "Millions of customers rely on Western Union to move money across borders with speed and confidence. By bringing our services to Total Wireless stores, we’re meeting more customers where they already shop and expanding access to reliable, convenient financial services. This partnership strengthens our presence in communities where our customers live and work."

Key takeaways

  • Total Wireless and Western Union are expanding in-store financial services nationwide, starting with select locations today and continuing through the end of 2026.
  • Available services include money transfers, bill payments, and money orders, with standard Western Union rates applying to customers who use the services.
  • Subscribers to Total Wireless' MAX 5G BYO, MAX 5G, and ALL ACCESS plans receive one fee-free Western Union transfer per month, redeemable online, via app, or at participating stores.

Impacted sectors - Telecom retail, financial services, and cross-border payments networks.

Risks and uncertainties

  • Rollout timing - The expansion is staged, with services currently in select stores and additional locations scheduled through the end of 2026; the pace of store additions may affect customer access in the near term.
  • Participation variability - The services are available only at participating Total Wireless locations, which may limit reach in some communities until more stores are enrolled.
  • Cost exposure for non-eligible customers - While eligible plan subscribers receive one monthly fee-free transfer, customers not on those plans will pay standard Western Union rates for the services.

For customers and observers, the partnership links in-store retail access to digital and in-person financial services, combining connectivity offerings with payment and remittance options in a single retail visit.

Risks

  • Rollout timing may limit customer access because the expansion is staged through the end of 2026 - impacts retail and fintech sectors.
  • Services are only available at participating stores, which could restrict availability in some communities until more locations are enrolled - impacts retail and consumer access.
  • Customers not on eligible plans will pay standard Western Union fees for transfers, which affects cost-sensitive users in payments and remittance markets.
