Risks

  • Significant declines in crude oil futures - West Texas Intermediate and Brent - could introduce volatility for energy-related and commodity-linked stocks.
  • Sharp moves in large-cap names, such as the falls in Shin-Etsu Chemical (TYO:4063) and Chugai Pharmaceutical (TYO:4519), present downside risk to index performance given their weightings.
  • Although implied volatility as measured by the Nikkei Volatility fell by 5.57% to 32.88, market participants may still face uncertainty as commodity and currency swings persist.
