Taiwan equities ended the trading day on a positive note Thursday, with the benchmark Taiwan Weighted index finishing up 2.76% at the close. Broad sector strength in Electronic Parts/Components, Financials and Optoelectronics supported the advance.
The session's top performers on the Taiwan Weighted included ADLINK Technology Inc (TW:6166), IEI Integration Corp (TW:3022) and Walsin Technology Corp (TW:2492). ADLINK shares rose 10.00% - an increase of 12.50 points - to close at 137.50. IEI Integration gained 10.00%, up 7.90 points to 86.90 at the close. Walsin Technology also added 10.00%, a 40.00-point increase to finish at 440.00.
On the downside, Yeong Guan Energy Technology Group Co Ltd (TW:1589), Chung Fu Tex-International Corp (TW:1435) and Lion Travel Service Co Ltd (TW:2731) were the session's weakest names. Yeong Guan Energy fell 9.92% - down 0.61 points - to end trading at 5.54. Chung Fu Tex-International declined 9.51%, a drop of 1.35 points to 12.85, and Lion Travel lost 9.30%, a 16.00-point decrease to 156.00.
Market breadth was recorded as: "Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 0 to 0."
Several stocks reached notable price extremes during the session. ADLINK Technology Inc (TW:6166) climbed to an all-time high, gaining 10.00% (12.50) to 137.50. Yeong Guan Energy Technology Group Co Ltd (TW:1589) fell to an all-time low, down 9.92% (0.61) to 5.54. IEI Integration Corp (TW:3022) rose to a 52-week high after its 10.00% (7.90) gain to 86.90. Chung Fu Tex-International Corp (TW:1435) dropped to a five-year low, falling 9.51% (1.35) to 12.85.
Commodities moved unevenly. Crude oil for July delivery rose 0.89% - up 0.80 - to trade at $90.83 a barrel. Brent oil for August delivery increased 0.68% - a 0.63 rise - to $93.73 a barrel. In contrast, the August Gold Futures contract slipped 0.67% - down 27.65 - to trade at $4,105.65 a troy ounce.
Currency and index moves included the USD/TWD pair climbing 0.11% to 31.72, and TWD/CNY showing a 0.05% change to 0.21. The US Dollar Index Futures was quoted up 0.06% at 100.00.
The trading day featured a mix of pronounced winner-loser moves at the individual stock level set against a solid gain for the benchmark, while energy and precious metals showed divergent paths.
