Sweden's main equity gauge finished the session marginally in the green on Wednesday as advances in Healthcare, Technology and Consumer Services helped lift shares overall. At the close in Stockholm, the OMX Stockholm 30 rose 0.02% and reached a fresh all-time high.
Notable movers
The leading performer on the OMXS30 was Boliden AB, which climbed 2.48% - adding 12.40 points to close at 512.20. AstraZeneca PLC also posted strong gains, up 2.32% or 35.00 points to finish at 1,545.50. Essity AB B rallied 1.98%, gaining 5.50 points to end the day at 282.70.
On the downside, Tele2 AB was the weakest large-cap, sliding 2.74% or 4.55 points to 161.25 at the close. Nordea Bank Abp declined 2.26%, losing 4.40 points to settle at 190.45, and Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson Class B fell 2.19% or 2.16 points to finish at 96.34.
Market breadth and wider context
Despite the headline index finishing at a record, decliners outnumbered advancers across the Stockholm exchange, with 417 stocks lower versus 311 higher and 72 unchanged. That distribution indicates the session's gains were driven by a subset of sectors and large-cap names rather than broad-based buying.
Commodities, FX and benchmarks
In commodities trading, crude oil for September delivery fell 0.28% (-0.21) to $75.56 a barrel. Brent oil for October delivery gained 0.25% (+0.20) to $79.56 a barrel. The December gold futures contract rose 3.42% or 141.85 to trade at 4,294.45 a troy ounce.
On currency moves, EUR/SEK was essentially unchanged, up 0.01% to 10.97, while USD/SEK dipped 0.15% to 9.50. The US Dollar Index Futures eased 0.13% to 99.61.
What this means for the session
The small gain in the OMXS30 and its move to a new record reflect strength in a handful of sectors and large names rather than uniform market momentum. Healthcare, Technology and Consumer Services were the day's sector leaders as measured by their impact on the headline index. At the same time, the larger number of declining issues signals mixed internals beneath the surface.
Investors and analysts tracking sector exposures and individual stock performance will likely note the divergence between headline index movement and overall breadth when assessing near-term market dynamics.
