Brazilian equities closed with a small loss on Wednesday, with the benchmark Bovespa index finishing the trading day down 0.11% in Sao Paulo. Declines in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors applied pressure across the board.
Among individual names, Raia Drogasil SA (BVMF:RADL3) was the session's top gainer, climbing 5.87% - an increase of 1.14 points - to finish at 20.45. Embraer SA (BVMF:EMBJ3) added 2.76% or 2.50 points to close at 92.84, while Brava Energia SA (BVMF:BRAV3) rose 2.64% or 0.50 points to 19.45.
On the downside, Hapvida Participacoes e Investimentos (BVMF:HAPV3) led the decliners, sliding 5.69% or 0.67 points to end the session at 11.20. C A Modas SA (BVMF:CEAB3) fell 3.91% or 0.38 points to 9.33, and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (BVMF:CSAN3) dropped 3.46% or 0.14 points to 3.91.
Market breadth was narrowly tilted toward declines, with 472 stocks falling versus 465 advancing on the B3 stock exchange, and 53 issues finishing unchanged.
Volatility on Brazil-focused options eased: the CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility index, which measures implied volatility of Bovespa options, declined 3.13% to 27.25.
Commodities showed mixed moves during the session. Gold futures for December delivery jumped 3.72% - a gain of 154.30 - to trade at $4,306.90 a troy ounce. Crude oil for September delivery slipped 0.91% or 0.69 to $75.08 a barrel. The December US coffee C contract inched higher by 0.57% or 1.75 to close at $310.55.
In currency markets, USD/BRL was down 0.15% to 5.12, while EUR/BRL was unchanged at 5.93. The US Dollar Index Futures was reported down 0.16% at 99.58.
Investors and analysts monitoring sector performance may note the outsize moves in select consumer, aerospace and energy-related names, alongside weakness in health and retail-adjacent issues. The session's data underscore a fairly balanced tape, with only a modest negative tilt for the headline index.
