Paris stocks closed in positive territory on Wednesday as gains in Consumer Services, Consumer Goods and Industrials propelled the market higher.

At the close, the CAC 40 was up 0.54%, while the broader SBF 120 climbed 0.42%.

The session's top performers on the CAC 40 included Compagnie de Saint Gobain SA (EPA:SGOB), which rose 3.26% or 2.52 points to finish at 79.84. Danone SA (EPA:DANO) added 2.84% or 1.92 points to close at 69.54, and L'Oreal SA (EPA:OREP) advanced 2.83% or 10.65 points to end at 386.65.

At the other end of the index, ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) led declines, falling 2.90% or 1.62 points to 54.22 at the close. Euronext (EPA:ENX) decreased 1.86% or 2.70 points to 142.60, and TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTEF) slipped 1.84% or 1.30 points to 69.51.

On the SBF 120, Air France KLM SA (EPA:AIRF) was the strongest performer, surging 8.14% to 13.55. Aeroports de Paris SA (EPA:ADP) rose 3.72% to settle at 114.30, and Sartorius Stedim Biotech SA (EPA:STDM) gained 3.68% to close at 169.20.

Conversely, Soitec SA (EPA:SOIT) registered the sharpest drop on the SBF 120, falling 10.88% to 107.30 in late trade. X Fab Silicon Foundries EV (EPA:XFAB) lost 8.19% to finish at 8.81, and Mersen (EPA:CBLP) declined 5.67% to 39.92 at the close.

Market breadth was negative at the Paris bourse: falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 278 to 186, with 78 issues unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures implied volatility of options on the index, was unchanged at 0.00% and stood at 18.96, marking a new 52-week high.

Commodities posted sizable moves. Gold Futures for August delivery were reported down 3.10% or 128.55 to $4,020.85 a troy ounce. In energy markets, crude oil for August delivery fell 3.85% or 2.82 to $70.39 a barrel, while the September Brent contract declined 3.66% or 2.81 to trade at $73.99 a barrel.

In foreign exchange trading, EUR/USD was little changed, moving 0.27% to 1.14, and EUR/GBP was essentially flat, changing 0.01% to 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.21% to 101.39.
