Mexico's equity benchmark finished the Friday session with a solid advance, driven by strength in Industrials, Consumer Goods & Services and Consumer Staples stocks.
The S&P/BMV IPC closed up 1.46% as a broad swath of shares posted gains. On the exchange, 147 issues rose versus 72 that fell, while 17 stocks finished unchanged.
Leading the index's winners, Controladora Vuela Compania de Aviacion SAB de CV (BMV:VOLARA) climbed 5.75% - a rise of 0.75 points - to close at 13.80. Banco Del Bajio SA Institution De Banca Multiple (BMV:BBAJIOO) added 4.63%, or 2.44 points, ending the day at 55.18. Industrial heavyweight Industrias Penoles Sab De CV (BMV:PEOLES) was higher by 3.39%, a 27.34-point gain, finishing at 834.71.
Not all names advanced. Gentera SAB de CV (BMV:GENTERA) was among the laggards, slipping 2.56% - down 0.97 points - to 36.91 at the close. Genomma Lab Internacional SAB De CV (BMV:LABB) fell 1.48%, or 0.22 points, to 14.61, a move that brought the stock to 52-week lows. Grupo Comercial Chedraui, SAB De CV (BMV:CHDRAUIB) declined 0.19%, or 0.17 points, to end at 90.89.
Commodities showed notable divergence during the session. Gold futures for August delivery advanced 3.06%, gaining 125.75 to settle at $4,239.75 a troy ounce. By contrast, crude markets were weaker: crude oil for July delivery dropped 3.97%, or 3.48, to $84.23 a barrel, and the August Brent contract fell 4.03%, or 3.64, to trade at $86.74 a barrel.
In currency markets, the peso appreciated marginally against major pairs reported here: USD/MXN moved down 0.06% to 17.23, while EUR/MXN declined 0.15% to 19.93. The US Dollar Index Futures was slightly lower by 0.05% at 99.80.
