Mexican equities ended the trading day in positive territory on Tuesday, led by strength in industrial and consumer-focused stocks. The S&P/BMV IPC rose 0.20% at the close.
The top-performing components on the S&P/BMV IPC included Grupo Aeroportuario Del CentroNorte (BMV:OMAB), which advanced 4.11% - a gain of 9.46 points - to finish at 239.84. Grupo Carso, S.A.B. De C.V. (BMV:GCARSOA1) added 3.83%, or 5.67 points, closing at 153.90. Controladora Vuela Compania de Aviacion SAB de CV (BMV:VOLARA) rose 2.72%, gaining 0.38 points to end the session at 14.34.
On the downside, materials and consumer-related names weighed on the list of laggards. Cemex SAB de CV (BMV:CEMEXCPO) posted the steepest decline, dropping 2.43% or 0.50 points to trade at 20.10 at the close. Alsea, S.A.B. De C.V. (BMV:ALSEA) slipped 1.68%, down 0.70 points to 41.01. Real estate issuer Corporacion Inmobiliaria Vesta SAB (BMV:VESTA) fell 1.38%, or 0.82 points, to finish at 58.81.
Market breadth favored advancers, with 140 stocks rising versus 100 that fell on the Mexico Stock Exchange; 16 shares ended unchanged.
Commodity markets registered mixed moves that accompany the equity session. Gold futures for December delivery climbed 1.07%, up $43.70, to $4,134.20 a troy ounce. Crude markets were weaker: crude oil for September delivery dropped 6.47%, a fall of $5.20, to $75.14 a barrel, while the October Brent contract edged down 0.01%, or $0.01, to $78.74 a barrel.
In foreign exchange trading, the Mexican peso moved slightly lower against major currencies. USD/MXN rose 0.06% to 17.26, and EUR/MXN increased 0.07% to 19.90. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 99.75.
The session showed selective strength among airport and consumer names while some materials and real estate stocks lagged. Broader market gains were modest and accompanied by notable moves in commodities, particularly the sharp decline in near-term crude futures.
