On the downside, Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) posted the session's largest drop, falling 20.60% or 91.30 points to land at 352.00. Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) lost 7.60% or 624.00 points to finish at 7,588.00, and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 6.93% - down 22.30 points to close at 299.70.

Market breadth on the London Stock Exchange was tilted toward advancers: 931 shares rose, 769 fell, and 559 were unchanged at the close.

In commodities, Gold Futures for August delivery advanced 1.83% or 73.70 to stand at $4,110.00 a troy ounce. Energy contracts moved lower: Crude oil for September delivery slipped 0.30% or 0.25 to $84.21 a barrel, while the October Brent contract fell 0.98% or 0.86 to $87.23 a barrel.

Currency markets saw the pound strengthen versus the dollar, with GBP/USD up 0.88% to 1.35. EUR/GBP was recorded unchanged at 0.21% to 0.86. Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.89%, sitting at 99.83.

The session mixed distinctive corporate moves with modest index-level weakness, leaving the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 slightly lower while individual names experienced wide swings. Sector performance and commodity and currency fluctuations are likely to remain factors for market participants assessing near-term positioning.
