Portugal's equity market closed in positive territory on Thursday, with the PSI index up 0.52% at the Lisbon close. Broad gains were concentrated in the Utilities, Telecoms and Financials sectors, which together helped lift the benchmark.
On an individual stock basis, Ren Redes Energeticas Nacionais SGPS SA (ELI:RENE) was the session's top performer, rising 1.86% or 0.07 points to finish at 3.56. Nos SGPS SA (ELI:NOS) followed, adding 1.70% or 0.08 points to close at 4.90. EDP Renovaveis (ELI:EDPR) also recorded a notable advance, gaining 1.51% or 0.20 points to end the day at 13.42.
At the lower end of the PSI, Sonae SGPS SA (ELI:YSO) fell 1.91% or 0.04 points to close at 2.05. Corticeira Amorim (ELI:CORA) declined 0.45% or 0.03 points to 6.66. Teixeira Duarte (ELI:TDSA) was effectively unchanged at 0.49, showing a reported 0.00 point move.
Market breadth on the Lisbon exchange favored advancers: 13 stocks rose, seven declined and eight finished unchanged.
Commodity prices displayed mixed performance during the session. Brent oil for October delivery climbed 3.94% or $3.13 to $82.58 a barrel. Crude oil for September delivery increased 3.43% or $2.58 to $77.80 a barrel. By contrast, the December Gold Futures contract slipped 0.19% or $8.28 to trade at $4,296.92 a troy ounce.
In foreign exchange trading, the euro showed little change in the main crosses reported: EUR/USD was effectively unchanged, recorded at 1.15 with a 0.29% notation, while EUR/GBP was also largely unchanged at 0.86 with a 0.27% notation. The US Dollar Index Futures moved higher, up 0.31% to 99.85.
