Alphabet Inc. announced an expansion of Gemini-powered features within its Chrome browser to users in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and additional regions. The company said the deployment makes the browser’s latest AI-assisted tools available on desktop and iOS platforms in the newly added markets.
In Chrome, Gemini operates as a personalized browsing assistant. It is designed to summarize page content, compare information across multiple open tabs and execute other tasks without forcing users to leave the page they are viewing. The assistant is accessible from within the browser and is intended to streamline common browsing workflows.
The AI assistant is built to work with a range of Google applications. Integration points cited include Calendar for arranging meetings, Maps for location lookups, Gmail for composing and sending messages, and YouTube for answering questions about video content. These integrations are available from the assistant interface so users can invoke the functions without switching away from their current browser tab.
Among the new capabilities being made available are features derived from Nano Banana 2, which enable users to transform online images using text prompts directly in the Gemini side panel. The system is also described as able to retain conversational context from earlier exchanges, and it provides a Personal Intelligence 1 capability that links Gmail, Photos, YouTube and Search to deliver tailored responses based on those connected services.
Alphabet said the expanded feature set incorporates security measures. The company indicated models have been trained to detect threats such as prompt injection. In addition, the system includes safeguards that require the user to confirm before executing sensitive actions initiated through the assistant.
Context and availability - The expansion covers desktop and iOS Chrome users in the specified new regions. The announcement did not provide additional rollout timing or a comprehensive list of all territories beyond Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.
How the assistant interacts with Google services - Users can access Calendar, Maps, Gmail and YouTube functionality from within the Gemini side panel, enabling scheduling, location details, email drafting and video-related queries without leaving the active page.
