Germany's stock market produced a mixed outcome at Thursday's close, with sector-level divergences shaping the picture. Technology, Industrials and Food & Beverages were among the drivers of positive returns, while Consumer & Cyclical, Software and Construction stocks weighed on the downside.
At the close in Frankfurt the benchmark DAX finished up 0.45%. The broader MDAX was essentially flat, advancing 0.02%, and the TecDAX lost 0.43%.
Top movers on the DAX
Leading the gainers on the DAX was Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (ETR:IFXGn), which climbed 9.16% or 4.99 points to end the session at 59.47. Siemens Energy AG (ETR:ENR1n) added 8.12% or 10.98 points to finish at 146.16, while Siemens AG Class N (ETR:SIEGn) rose 3.63% or 9.85 points to close at 281.10.
On the downside, Adidas AG (ETR:ADSGn) led losses, falling 11.52% or 21.00 points to 161.25 at the close. Zalando SE (ETR:ZALG) declined 4.27% or 1.29 points to 28.95, and SAP SE (ETR:SAPG) shed 3.78% or 6.12 points to finish at 155.92.
Movers in the MDAX and TecDAX
In the MDAX, Aumovio Se (ETR:AMV0n) was the best performer, gaining 14.93% to 42.35. Lanxess AG (ETR:LXSG) rose 5.09% to 16.71 and DWS Group GmbH & Co KgaA (ETR:DWSG) climbed 4.20% to close at 72.00.
MDAX laggards included Nemetschek AG O.N. (ETR:NEKG), which dropped 13.69% to 58.00, TeamViewer AG (ETR:TMV), down 12.04% to 5.96, and Redcare Pharmacy NV (ETR:RDC), which fell 6.57% to 64.75.
On the TecDAX, Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (ETR:DRWG_p) led gains with a 10.58% increase to 106.60. Infineon (ETR:IFXGn) also ranked among the TecDAX winners with its 9.16% rise, while Siltronic AG (ETR:WAFGn) added 8.83% to close at 73.95. The sector's weakest names mirrored the broader market: Nemetschek (ETR:NEKG) fell 13.69% to 58.00, TeamViewer (ETR:TMV) lost 12.04% to 5.96 and 1&1 AG (ETR:1U1) declined 4.50% to 19.96.
Market breadth and record levels
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 325 to 314, and 43 stocks finished unchanged. DWS Group shares rose to an all-time high, up 4.20% or 2.90 to 72.00. Draegerwerk shares rose to five-year highs, gaining 10.58% or 10.20 to 106.60.
Volatility, commodities and FX
The DAX volatility index, which tracks implied volatility in DAX options, increased 5.23% to 19.00.
In commodities, Gold Futures for August delivery rose 1.91% or 77.20 to trade at $4,113.50 a troy ounce. Crude oil for September delivery fell 0.38% or 0.32 to $84.14 a barrel, while the October Brent contract dropped 1.12% or 0.99 to $87.10 a barrel.
In currency markets, EUR/USD was up 0.51% to 1.15, and EUR/GBP moved 0.22% to 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.88% at 99.85.
