The headline AEX figure fell to 1,099.18, a decline of 5.51 points or 0.50% from the prior close. At the same time, the AEX Volatility measure, which tracks implied volatility of AEX options, was unchanged at 21.09 - a 0.00% move.
Top performers
Among individual names, Shell PLC (AS:SHEL) led gains on the index, rising 2.11% or 0.82 points to close at 39.72. ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) added 1.91% or 1.14 points to finish at 60.74. ASM International NV (AS:ASMI) also recorded a positive session, advancing 1.60% or 12.60 points to 801.20 in late trade.
Lagging names
The session's heaviest losses were concentrated in a handful of names. Universal Music Group NV (AS:UMG) plunged 25.40% or 4.92 points to 14.44, falling to all-time lows in the process. Relx PLC (AS:REL) declined 2.48% or 0.78 points to end at 30.62, while IMCD NV (AS:IMCD) slipped 1.80% or 1.74 points to 94.78.
Market breadth and positioning
Decliners outnumbered advancers on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange by 53 to 46, with 8 stocks unchanged at the close.
Commodities and FX
Commodity markets moved mixed. Crude oil for September delivery rose 0.96% or 0.80 to trade at $84.39 a barrel. Brent oil for October delivery was up 0.54% or 0.47 to $87.35 a barrel. The August Gold Futures contract fell 1.51% or 62.10 to trade at $4,038.00 a troy ounce.
In foreign exchange, EUR/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.15, while EUR/GBP was unchanged 0.09% to 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures moved higher, up 0.22% at 99.94.
This session reflected a mix of sector outcomes where energy and materials names outperformed while consumer-facing and services companies were notable sources of weakness. Volatility on the AEX remained steady through the close.
