Netherlands stocks ended the trading day in negative territory on Friday as several major sectors - notably Technology, Consumer Services and Real Estate - weighed on the benchmark.
At the Amsterdam close, the AEX was down 0.16%. Sector-level declines in technology-related names and selected consumer and property stocks contributed to the modest slide.
Top performers
- CVC Capital Partners PLC (AS:CVC) led gains on the AEX, rising 2.16% (0.33 points) to finish at 15.62.
- Wolters Kluwer (AS:WLSNc) added 2.14% (1.46 points), closing at 69.78.
- Universal Music Group NV (AS:UMG) advanced 2.01% (0.30 points) to 14.95 by the end of trading.
Lagging names
- Magnum Ice Cream Nv (AS:MICCT) was the session's weakest, slipping 1.89% (0.33 points) to 17.01.
- ASML Holding NV (AS:ASML) declined 1.85% (29.80 points), ending the session at 1,579.60.
- Prosus (AS:PRX) also lost ground, down 1.85% (0.71 points) to close at 37.40.
Market breadth on the Amsterdam exchange favored advancing issues, with 63 stocks higher, 37 stocks lower and 9 unchanged at the close.
Option-market tension, as measured by the AEX Volatility index (which gauges implied volatility for AEX options), was unchanged on the session at 21.09.
Commodities and currencies
- Crude oil for September delivery rose 0.44% (0.36) to $81.61 a barrel.
- Brent oil for October delivery gained 0.77% (0.67) to $87.74 a barrel.
- The December Gold Futures contract increased 0.66% (29.15) to trade at $4,449.55 a troy ounce.
In currency markets, the euro strengthened against the dollar, with EUR/USD up 0.45% to 1.16, while EUR/GBP was effectively unchanged, moving 0.06% to 0.85. Separately, US Dollar Index Futures were down 0.42% at 99.44.
This session was marked by mixed stock-level performance despite broadly calm option-implied volatility, with gains concentrated among select consumer and information services names and losses in several larger technology and consumer-facing companies.
