Continuum-1, a Satellogic-built Earth Observation Satellite Acquired by HEO, has Completed Two Extended Proximity Operations Periods

PARIS, Sept. 14, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Satellogic Inc. (NASDAQ: SATL), the infrastructure company for Persistent Global Intelligence (PGI), today confirmed that its flight software ran the maneuvers behind the second phase of HEO's Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) campaign, in which an Earth observation satellite held position around a derelict CZ-2C rocket body, the spent structural upper stage left behind in orbit after the launch of a Chinese Long March 2C orbital rocket, in low-Earth orbit for sustained, close-range inspection.


Continuum-1 is a Satellogic-built Earth observation satellite that HEO acquired from Satellogic in December 2025. It was designed to image Earth from several hundred kilometers up and carries an Earth-imaging camera and a fuel reserve sized for that job. After completing a three-maneuver sequence, Continuum-1 held position within 30 kilometers of the target during a first proximity period in August, then closed to within 27 kilometers during a second, closer period in late August and early September. HEO reported today that resolution improved from roughly 8 cm per pixel, shared from the first period, to as sharp as 7 cm per pixel during the second.

"Getting it to hold a sharp picture of something 27 kilometers away, which meant re-tuning the optical payload and the software behind it, demonstrates the flexibility of our platform to also serve Space Domain Awareness applications.”

This is the second public update on the campaign, following initial images it shared in early September. The campaign was conducted in partnership with HEO, which selected the target and led mission planning, and UNSW Canberra Space, which supported maneuver planning and ground-based tracking, with funding through Australia's Defence Trailblazer program, while Satellogic was responsible for Mission Operations.

This is the latest proof point of the capabilities Satellogic can provide in support of sovereign missions. The campaign is a demonstration that Satellogic’s satellite fleet is capable of tasks well outside its original design brief, without new hardware or a dedicated mission build. As more infrastructure moves into orbit, that kind of software flexibility will become a sovereign requirement.
