Taylor Swift is the top nominee for this year’s American Music Awards, earning eight nominations that include artist of the year, song of the year for "The Fate of Ophelia" and album of the year for "The Life of a Showgirl," organizers announced on Tuesday.
The pop star, who holds the record for the most AMA wins in the history of the show, had six nominations last year. Her Eras Tour, which began in 2023, achieved the distinction of being the highest-grossing concert tour of all time. Her campaign to re-record earlier albums has also been widely credited with motivating other performers to pursue greater ownership of their recorded work.
Following Swift, four acts each received seven nominations: Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean, SOMBR and Morgan Wallen. Carpenter is a contender for artist of the year, while Dean and SOMBR earned their first-ever AMA nominations, including nods in the new artist of the year category.
The list of nominees also highlights contributors to the animated musical film KPop Demon Hunters, which won an Oscar. The singing voices from that film received nominations for the song of the year, best vocal performance and best pop song for "Golden," a chart-topping track from the movie. EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami are among those credited, and a victory in any category would mark the group’s first American Music Award.
Winners will be determined by fan voting. The results will be revealed at a live awards ceremony in Las Vegas on May 25, which will be hosted by Queen Latifah. The program will be broadcast live on CBS and will also stream on Paramount+.
Queen Latifah, who will guide the broadcast, is a recipient of Grammy, Emmy and Golden Globe awards and has maintained a presence across music, film and television for decades, with credits spanning hip-hop albums and an Oscar-nominated film role.
The AMA nominations were determined by the event organizers using a mix of performance indicators, including positions on Billboard music charts, streaming and album sales, radio airplay and engagement on social media platforms.
