Taylor Swift Tops American Music Awards Nominees List with Eight Nods

Taylor Swift received eight nominations for this year’s American Music Awards, including artist of the year, song of the year and album of the year. Close behind are Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean, SOMBR and Morgan Wallen with seven nominations each. Fans will decide the winners at a live ceremony in Las Vegas on May 25 hosted by Queen Latifah, with the broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.

Key Points

  • Taylor Swift leads the American Music Awards with eight nominations, including top categories: artist, song and album of the year - impacts the music and live events sectors.
  • Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean, SOMBR and Morgan Wallen follow closely with seven nominations each; Dean and SOMBR received their first AMA nods - relevant to music industry talent pipelines and streaming services.
  • Voting will be conducted by fans and the ceremony will air live on CBS and Paramount+ on May 25, affecting broadcast and streaming media audiences and advertising considerations.

Taylor Swift is the top nominee for this year’s American Music Awards, earning eight nominations that include artist of the year, song of the year for "The Fate of Ophelia" and album of the year for "The Life of a Showgirl," organizers announced on Tuesday.

The pop star, who holds the record for the most AMA wins in the history of the show, had six nominations last year. Her Eras Tour, which began in 2023, achieved the distinction of being the highest-grossing concert tour of all time. Her campaign to re-record earlier albums has also been widely credited with motivating other performers to pursue greater ownership of their recorded work.

Following Swift, four acts each received seven nominations: Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean, SOMBR and Morgan Wallen. Carpenter is a contender for artist of the year, while Dean and SOMBR earned their first-ever AMA nominations, including nods in the new artist of the year category.

The list of nominees also highlights contributors to the animated musical film KPop Demon Hunters, which won an Oscar. The singing voices from that film received nominations for the song of the year, best vocal performance and best pop song for "Golden," a chart-topping track from the movie. EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami are among those credited, and a victory in any category would mark the group’s first American Music Award.

Winners will be determined by fan voting. The results will be revealed at a live awards ceremony in Las Vegas on May 25, which will be hosted by Queen Latifah. The program will be broadcast live on CBS and will also stream on Paramount+.

Queen Latifah, who will guide the broadcast, is a recipient of Grammy, Emmy and Golden Globe awards and has maintained a presence across music, film and television for decades, with credits spanning hip-hop albums and an Oscar-nominated film role.

The AMA nominations were determined by the event organizers using a mix of performance indicators, including positions on Billboard music charts, streaming and album sales, radio airplay and engagement on social media platforms.

Risks

  • Winners are decided by fan voting, which introduces uncertainty for labels and promoters about award outcomes and their marketing impact - affects music promotion and entertainment marketing sectors.
  • AMA nominations were based on metrics such as chart placement, streaming, sales, radio airplay and social media engagement, all of which can fluctuate and influence nomination and award dynamics - impacts record labels and streaming platforms.
  • Several nominees are first-time AMA contenders; their recognition may not translate into awards or sustained commercial gains, creating uncertainty for artist development and investment decisions in the music sector.
