Helsinki Stocks Tick Higher as OMX Helsinki 25 Reaches New Peak

Finnish equities closed higher on Tuesday, with the OMX Helsinki 25 finishing the session up 0.29% and registering a new all-time high. Gains were concentrated in the Consumer Services, Telecoms and Financials sectors. Outokumpu Oyj, Nordea Bank Abp and Lumo Kodit Oyj were among the session's top performers, while Neste Oyj, UPM-Kymmene Oyj and Elisa Oyj lagged. Broader market breadth favored advancers over decliners, and key commodities and currency benchmarks moved notably during the trading day.

Finnish stocks moved higher at the close on Tuesday, led by sector advances in Consumer Services, Telecoms and Financials that helped push the headline index to a fresh peak.

At the close in Helsinki, the OMX Helsinki 25 rose 0.29% to record an all-time high.

Among individual names, Outokumpu Oyj (HE:OUT1V) was the strongest performer on the OMX Helsinki 25, gaining 2.04% - equal to an increase of 0.11 points - to finish at 5.24. Nordea Bank Abp (HE:NDAFI) also saw a solid uptick, adding 2.01% or 0.32 points to close at 16.21. Lumo Kodit Oyj (HE:LUMO) rounded out the top three, advancing 1.86% or 0.16 points to end the session at 8.50.

On the downside, Neste Oyj (HE:NESTE) fell 1.17% or 0.30 points to trade at 25.26 at the close. UPM-Kymmene Oyj (HE:UPM) declined 0.97% or 0.26 points to finish at 26.56, while Elisa Oyj (HE:ELISA) slipped 0.77% or 0.32 points to 41.22 in late trade.

Market breadth favored advancing issues, with rising stocks outnumbering decliners on the Helsinki Stock Exchange by 99 to 68. A further 23 stocks ended the session unchanged.

Commodities saw notable moves during the session. Brent oil for June delivery was down 3.92% or 3.89 to $95.47 a barrel. US crude for May delivery fell 6.45% or 6.39 to $92.69 a barrel. Precious metals moved in the opposite direction, with the June Gold Futures contract up 1.34% or 63.77 to trade at $4,831.17 a troy ounce.

In currency markets, EUR/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 1.18, while EUR/GBP was unchanged 0.15% to 0.87. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 97.92.

The trading day closed with a modestly positive tone for the Finnish benchmark, supported by sector-specific strength even as commodity prices and currency rates showed volatility across energy, metals and foreign exchange markets.
