WuXi AppTec's shares rallied Tuesday, gaining 10.7% to close at HK$180.3, following the release of robust first-half 2026 financial results that exceeded market forecasts.
For the six months ended in the period, the contract research and manufacturing services provider reported revenue of approximately RMB 28.9 billion, representing year-over-year growth of about 38.9%. Net profit attributable to shareholders rose 33.7% to RMB 11.08 billion, a pace of increase that materially surpassed the Bloomberg consensus estimate that had anticipated only a 14.5% rise in profit.
On a non-IFRS adjusted basis, the company said net profit jumped 83.2% compared with the same period a year earlier, a move the company attributed to operating leverage.
Guidance and shareholder return
Alongside the results, WuXi AppTec raised its full-year revenue guidance and announced an interim cash dividend of RMB 5.1 per 10 shares, which is scheduled to be paid in September. The simultaneous combination of upgraded guidance and a cash payout signaled management confidence in the company’s near-term cash generation.
Management commentary and growth drivers
Chairman and CEO Li Ge pointed to "strong commercial momentum across various client drug programmes" as underpinning the results. The company highlighted demand tied to weight-loss and diabetes drug programs as important contributors to revenue growth, and also noted gains in its U.S.-facing business as a key driver.
Management framed the quarter as growth across revenue, profit, and cash flow, with adjusted profitability expanding substantially due to operating leverage as revenue scaled.
Market reaction
Investors responded to the combination of stronger-than-expected top-line growth, outperformance on net profit metrics, an updated revenue outlook, and an interim dividend with a notable jump in the stock price, reflecting renewed risk appetite for the company’s growth profile tied to client drug programmes and geographic expansion.
The figures reported provide a clear snapshot of the company’s recent performance, while management commentary linked the results explicitly to programme-driven demand and the expansion of U.S.-facing operations.
