U.K. equities posted gains at Tuesday's close, with the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rising 0.33% to register a new all-time high. Sector-level strength was concentrated in Automobiles & Parts, Household Goods & Home Construction and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech.
Among individual stocks, Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV) led the session, finishing up 16.31% or 43.80 points to close at 312.40. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) also recorded a strong advance, rising 10.43% or 48.20 points to end at 510.20. AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) gained 3.02% or 366.00 points to finish at 12,476.00 in late trade.
On the downside, Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) fell 2.51% or 55.00 points to close at 2,140.00. Drinks maker Diageo PLC (LON:DGE) slipped 2.01% or 35.50 points to 1,735.50, and advertising group WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 1.93% or 7.70 points to finish at 392.20.
Market breadth on the London Stock Exchange was positive, with 1,024 stocks rising, 666 declining and 562 finishing unchanged.
Commodities showed mixed moves during the session. Gold futures for December delivery were up 0.08% or 3.59 to $4,701.39 a troy ounce. Crude oil for October delivery fell 3.40% or 2.89 to $82.12 a barrel, while the November Brent contract dropped 3.48% or 3.15 to trade at $87.39 a barrel.
In foreign exchange markets, GBP/USD was unchanged at 1.36, while EUR/GBP was unchanged at 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 98.89.
